The Carol Stewart Memorial Orienteering Weekend – 21-22 November 2026

The Carol Stewart Memorial Orienteering Weekend – 21-22 November 2026

The Carol Stewart Memorial Weekend - 21-22 November 2026 (incorporating the SW and NGOC Leagues, and the Army Individual Championships)

This weekend, we honour Carol Stewart who died last summer. Familiar to many orienteers regionally, she is frequently remembered as the always smiling face in the NGOC registration tent, offering welcome support wherever it was needed.

Carol brought clarity and structure to the club during its founding period, first as Chairman (from the mid-1980s), latterly as Treasurer (for 26 years until 2020), and throughout the 1990s, when she was prominent in planning and organising events.

Carol was the epitome of those quiet individuals who see what needs to be done to host events efficiently, and who lead without being asked, seeking neither praise nor recognition.

Please join one or both of the club activities on this 'double double' header weekend in late November, dedicated to the memory of Carol, when we will say farewell to a lovely person and great friend of orienteering.

On Saturday 21 November we are staging

  1. a Western Night League race at Symonds Yat, planned by Andy Creber. This is a traditional WNL 60 minute score event;
  2. and alongside it, using the same area, the Army Night Championships, consisting of a number of linear courses

Then on Sunday 22 November we have:

  1. A 2026 NGOC and SWOA League Race, at Soudley Ponds, planned by Andy Stott;
  2. The Army Inter-Corps and Individual Long Distance Championships, sharing some courses but with their own courses as well;
  3. The UK Police Service vs RAF vs Army Orienteering Challenge

On top of these events, Sunday is a selection race for Interland juniors - 14-18 year olds - and a training session for the GB squad.

It promises to be a great weekend, so save the dates and look out for entries opening soon.

You can find details of all these events in the specific event details pages as follows:

Day 1 - Saturday 21 November 2026 - Western Night League - Symonds Yat
