12/04/2023 - Hereford South-East 2023

Event 5 in the 2023 MapRun season, and our new MapRun League, is a return to Hereford. This course has almost no overlap with the previous one based at Newton Farm. There's quite a variety in store: residential streets, playing fields, Cathedral green, pedestrianised city centre, alleyways and three river crossings.

Directions and Parking

Parking is in the Asda car park (3 hours free parking for shoppers – please pop in and buy something!). We will meet in the far NE corner of the car park. There is also a bus stop very close by where the 33 bus from Gloucester stops. (Last bus back to Gloucester is at 20:00.)

The Area

The area is bounded by the A49, A438 and the railway. There are no major roads to cross. There are two routes from the car park into the area, both of which pass under the A49. The A49 may not be crossed at any other point.

The area covers the largely pedestrianised city centre, the cathedral green, Bishops Meadow playing fields, an area of previous pasture, now somewhat overgrown and a variety of residential streets and alleyways, and features three river bridges. It is mostly flat and on tarmac and is suitable for wheelchair users (but please contact the organiser so that an adapted map can be prepared).

Timing and Fees

Starts from 1830 to 1900.

To guarantee a map, you will need to pre-enter via Fabian4: this is open until midnight on Tuesday 11th April. A few extra maps will be available for entry on the day, but don't rely on this!

Entry fees: £5 seniors, £2 juniors. Competitors aged under-16 must be accompanied. The fee covers third party liability insurance, a map printed on waterproof paper, and post-run cake!

We may or may not be able to take card payments, so bring cash if planning to enter on the day.

The course

It’s a one hour score event using the MapRun app:

  • Checkpoints 1-10 are worth 10 points.

  • Checkpoints 11-20 are worth 20 points.

  • Checkpoints 21-30 are worth 30 points.

Score as many points as you can within an hour. If you’re late getting back, there’s a 10 point penalty per minute over.

You'll be issued with a waterproof map, A4, scale 1:10,000, before you start.

Please make sure you’ve installed MapRun6 before the event. If you haven’t used MapRun before, don’t worry – it’s easy to use, and we have full details on getting started.

You should download the course to your phone ideally before coming to the event, as sometimes there is little or no phone signal once there. You can download it by scanning this QR code below with your MapRun6 phone,

by tapping this link on your MapRun6 phone, or by using the Select Event button in MapRun6 and navigating to the UK/Gloucestershire/Current Series folder.
