NGOC Ride Sharing

NGOC Ride Sharing

In order to try and reduce our collective travel costs, financial and environmental, we have created a WhatsApp group called NGOC Ride Share. It’s purpose is to allow people to offer or request rides to orienteering events, both ours and those organised by other clubs. We are finding that it is getting harder and harder to accommodate our parking requirements at events, and often good orienteering areas have limited use due to lack of suitable parking, so please do give this a try.

This is a ride sharing scheme/group, not a car sharing one. According to the Association of British Insurers, at https://www.abi.org.uk/products-and-issues/choosing-the-right-insurance/motor-insurance/car-sharing-and-insurance/,

The ABI is supportive of car and ride sharing platforms. ABI motor insurers have agreed that your insurance cover will not be affected if your passengers contribute towards your journey costs (including fuel, vehicle depreciation and associated vehicle running costs), as long as lifts are given in a vehicle seating eight passengers or less.

so your insurance cover is not affected if using your car in this manner to offer lifts to people going where you are going.

You don’t have to be an NGOC club member to join, but you do need to be looking to go orienteering!

To join, you need to email equipment@ngoc.org.uk requesting an invitation to join, or text me, Pat Macleod, if you have my mobile number.
