Cranham & Witcombe Results

Final results for Saturday’s event at Cranham & Witcombe are now published on the Results page.

We apologise for the problems some runners encountered at control 187 due to there being an unmapped path near the control. We have reviewed BO rules regarding the revision of results in the light of possible issues with controls. The general principle in Appendix A para 7.10.3 is that if it can be established that a serious problem is unlikely to have affected the top runners in a race, then no action should be taken since the winners of the race will be determined by who completed the designated race in the quickest time. A comparison of adjusted and unadjusted course times, attached Here, suggests that this was largely the case here, and somewhat surprisingly, the worst affected course (Short Green) was one where the extra path should have had minimal impact. However, as this was an informal level D event, and given the level of comment, we have decided to void the leg to control 187 on all courses. As all runners did punch 187 the legs from control 187 remain valid.

Organiser James Wilkinson comments that the indistinct path near 187, and several others, had become much more prominent even in the fortnight since his last visit to the area.

All that aside, many thanks to James and all his helpers for a very enjoyable, if breezy day. Fortunately it didn’t rain after the download tent blew away in a particularly strong gust, and nothing got broken by being thrown around.

Finally, a special thanks to all those who came to John Fallows’ assistance when he felt unwell out on the course, particularly Chris Moon, who gave up his run to report back to base, Isla Simmonds and Katy Dyer who stayed with John until we could arrange a lift back to Assembly, and also John and Sheila Miklausic who made sure John made it home OK. I should report that John went to his local MIU, who transferred him to Gloucester Royal Hospital following an ECG, and he has been kept in for a few days. We all wish him a rapid and complete recovery.
