Merthyr Mawr Entries now Open
Entries for the Welsh and NGOC league Race, and for BUCS Guest runners, are now open at Fabian4.co.uk, so head on over there and sign up.
Many thanks to all those who have already signed up with our Volunteer Coordinator to help out on the day. Remember to activate the helper code when you enter, to get your entry fee discount. And if you haven’t signed up yet, but are willing to help, we still need more volunteers as it will be a fairly long day. If you are SWOC or SBOC members you are most welcome to sign up as volunteers as well – details on how to do so are in the main event post at https://www.ngoc.org.uk/event/2026-league-3-mmawr/. You will be particularly welcome as some of you, at least, will live a lot closer than NGOC runners, and so could be very useful earlier in the day.
WNL British Camp Results are Published
The results from this evening’s WNL race at British Camp on the Malverns are now published on the Results page, together with a link to Routegadget. Many thanks to Judith and Rob Taylor for a challenging but fun course – plenty of climb, and plenty of mud for those brave enough to venture down to the common at the bottom of the area, despite the warnings!
Cranham Results
Results and Splits for Sunday’s League event at Cranham are now published on the Results page, and the Routegadget link there is also live. Organiser’s Comments Thank you all for coming to today’s event at the lovely village and woods…
BUCS/League at Merthyr Mawr – Saturday 14 March 2026
You’ll have seen from the Event Programme that on Saturday 14 March, alongside our league, and as a Regional event, we host both a Welsh league and the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Orienteering Championships, on the challenging terrain at Merthyr Mawr that many of us last visited on Day 1 of Croeso 2024. As well as BUCS, ….
The 2026 MapRun League
In 2025 we staged 18 MapRuns, during which 167 different people ran 538 races – a great achievement – and MapRun is proving increasingly popular with non-orienteers – people looking for something different, a bit of easy navigation, a convivial atmosphere, and some good exercise.
For 2026 we are aiming for the same number of MapRuns, but with what we hope is more scope for more people to get to more races, and some little incentives ….
Mallards Pike Results

Mallards South Tomorrow is ON
Storm Goretti thankfully pretty much passed us by, so we have no snow to speak of in the forest, the controls are out, and we look forward to welcoming everyone in the morning. FE have advised us that they would close Mallards Pike if icy, but the current forecast is for temperatures above freezing overnight, and there was very little ice about this afternoon (but lots and lots of water in the streams!), so we are confident all will be well, and we’ll see you tomorrow.
There will be no Go/No Go message in the morning.
Mallards South League – Weather Outlook
First of all many thanks to everyone who has entered the Mallards South League race on Saturday. As you can imagine we are keeping a very close eye on the weather. Having just watched the Met Office forecast for tonight and tomorrow, it appears that we will avoid the worst of tonight’s very strong winds, so the risk of closure of the forest by Forestry England is small, and we will be able to get the controls out tomorrow afternoon.
However, we are on the edge of the amber snow warning zone, and so there is a chance that snow might restrict access to the forest, both tomorrow and on Saturday. On the plus side, the Severn Valley somehow often avoids the worst of the weather, be it rain, winds or snow, and so there is a good chance that we will be able to go ahead on Saturday. We will provide an update on here tomorrow afternoon, and we currently plan to issue a Go/No Go message via the website and Fabian bulk email no later than 08:00 on Saturday. So please don’t travel until you have seen that message; it may depend on something quite small like being able to drive up into the car park!
