Directions and Parking

Parking is at Merretts Mill industrial estate, with their agreement. Please do not arrive before 6pm as parking spaces will still be in use by people who work there.
The estate contains many small businesses and lies between Woodchester and Nailsworth on the east side of the A46. There is a sign outside that says “Merretts Mill”, but as it is not big, it is easy to miss. You may also spot signs for "Nailsworth Garden Machinery" or "Maynard Ltd". Park in a free space somewhere close to the entrance.

The Area

The event will take place in a charming rural landscape with nice views. There is plenty of variety, including narrow lanes and paths across a hillside scattered with pretty villages typical of the Stroud Valleys, open common, pleasant woodland paths, a vineyard, former mills and a cycle path along an old railway. There's uphill and downhill, but it is flat along the top and bottom – minimising the climb will be key!

On a very small number of paths, you may encounter nettles or other prickly plants, meaning some people may prefer to wear either long socks or full leg cover.

Timing and Fees

Starts from 1830 to 1900.

To guarantee a map, you will need to pre-enter via Fabian4: this is open until midnight on Tuesday 11 July. A few extra maps will be available for entry on the day, but don't rely on this!

Entry fees: £5 seniors, £2 juniors. Competitors aged under-16 must be accompanied. The fee covers third party liability insurance, a map printed on waterproof paper, and post-run cake!

We may or may not be able to take card payments, so bring cash if planning to enter on the day.

The course

It’s a one hour score event using the MapRun app. In a departure from our usual scoring format, however, for this race all controls are worth 20 points, but with the standard 10 points per minute or part minute late back.

Score as many points as you can within an hour. If you’re late getting back, there’s a 10 point penalty per minute over.

You'll be issued with a waterproof map, A4, scale 1:10,000, before you start.

Please make sure you’ve installed MapRun before the event. If installing MapRun for the first time, select the MapRun app from yor app store, and not MapRunF or MapRun6. MapRun, which is in practise Maprun v7, is now the standard app. If you haven’t used MapRun before, don’t worry – it’s easy to use, and we have full details on getting started.

You should download the course to your phone ideally before coming to the event, as sometimes there is little or no phone signal once there. Links to enable download will appear here when the course is published, a week or two before the day.

You can download the course by scanning this QR code

or by tapping this link on your MapRun phone, or by using the Select Event button in MapRun and navigating to the UK/Gloucestershire/Current Series folder.

MapRunG (Garmin watch) users: if you have MapRun6 or later, you do not need the event PIN number to download the course to your watch. This means you can download the course before your arrive at the event, in case there is no phone signal there.

Safety

  • The course covers both woodland and street areas, although almost all roads are very quite residential streets with little traffic. Nevertheless take care when running on or across these.
  • The going should be reasonably good on most paths, but be aware of possible brambles and nettles in some areas.
  • Under 16s must be accompanied.
  • A First Aid kit will be available at registration

Although all legal Covid restrictions have ceased, you should NOT attend if you are Covid positive, or suspect you are.
