06/09/2022 Evening MapRun – Randwick

06/09/2022 Evening MapRun – Randwick

Randwick 2022

This event was originally scheduled for July but had to be postponed due to the extreme heat.

Note the unusual day of the week and start times for this event. It is a Tuesday and start time is a bit earlier than usual to allow everyone to finish in the light.

Although starting and finishing in the suburbs of Stroud, these will soon be left behind and the event will be largely rural, using lanes and paths to visit the lovely villages of Randwick, Ruscombe and Whiteshill. These villages cling to the hillsides and offer great views back to Stroud and its valleys. A special area, not to be missed!

Pub of the night: The Old Crown is right next to the parking area, so a perfect place for post-race analysis of routes.

Questions: Email the organiser Greg Best at permissions@ngoc.org.uk

The Area

The rural parts have plenty of off-road paths and tracks, some of which are across fields or in woods. However, the going is generally very good with very little undergrowth , so normal running shoes will be fine, especially if dry weather. There are just a couple of paths where you may find nettles, so long socks may be a good idea. A few of the roads do not have a pavement, so care should be taken, although there is not much traffic on these.

Wheelchair Suitability: Although some of the more rural parts are not suitable for wheelchairs, there should be enough that is accessible to wheelchair users to make it worthwhile. Two-thirds of the controls can be reached by wheelchair. Please let the organiser know in good time if planning to come, so he has time to make a special map showing the paths to be avoided.

Timing and Fees

Starts from 1800 to 1830.

To guarantee a map, you will need to pre-enter via Fabian4: this is open until midnight on Sun 4 September. A few extra maps will be available for entry on the day, but don't rely on this!

Entry fees: £5 seniors, £2 juniors. Competitors aged under-16 must be accompanied. The fee covers third party liability insurance, a map printed on waterproof paper, and post-run cake!

We may or may not be able to take card payments, so bring cash if planning to enter on the day.

The course

It’s a one hour score event using the MapRun app:

  • Checkpoints 1-10 are worth 10 points.

  • Checkpoints 11-20 are worth 20 points.

  • Checkpoints 21-30 are worth 30 points.

Score as many points as you can within an hour. If you’re late getting back, there’s a 10 point penalty per minute over.

You'll be issued with a waterproof map, A4, scale 1:10,000, before you start.

Please make sure you’ve installed MapRun6 before the event. If you haven’t used MapRun before, don’t worry – it’s easy to use, and we have full details on getting started.

You should download the course to your phone ideally before coming to the event, as sometimes there is little or no phone signal once there. You can download the course either by finding it in the MapRun6 app in the UK/Gloucestershire/Current Series folder, by scanning this QR code with your MapRun6 phone:

or by tapping https://p.fne.com.au/openevent/?id=22266&auth=802958 on your MapRun6 phone.

MapRunG (Garmin watch) users: if you have MapRun6, you do not need the event PIN number to download the course to your watch. This means you can download the course before your arrive at the event, in case there is no phone signal there.

Safety

  • The course is largely located in an urban environment necessitating many road crossings, so under 16s must be accompanied.

Although all legal Covid restrictions have ceased, you should NOT attend if you are Covid positive, or suspect you are.
