We have reluctantly and sadly decided to cancel next weekend’s Gloucester City race. This is due to some very late and in our view unreasonably constraining conditions placed upon us by one key land manager. As a result, we have considered re-planning to avoid use of the areas concerned, but feel that in doing so we have lost much of the best parts of the city for urban and sprint orienteering, and any re-organised event is unlikely to provide much interest in orienteering terms, nor meet the standards of competition we seek to achieve. Responsibility for significant parts of central Gloucester around the Docks has changed since our successful 2015 and 2016 events, and we now need to try and engage better with the new land managers to see if we can find ways to allow us to organise an event next year. We would add that the City Council has been very supportive, and have done their best to coordinate permissions and licences.
