WHISTLES AND BACKUP LIGHTING ARE COMPULSORY AT WNL EVENTS

TRAVEL DIRECTIONS and PARKING

The event is based on the Cranham Scout Centre overflow car park, in Cranham Village. If travelling from the North, West or Wales, take the A46 south from Gloucester, or North from Stroud, and head for Cranham village. The Scout Centre is signed at the turn off the A46 for Cranham. Just after turning off the A46 you need to bear right down into Cranham village. The Centre is at the bottom of the steep hill down into the village. There will be O signs at the bottom the hill turning you RIGHT into the overflow car park. DO NOT follow the Scout Centre signs to the Left.

If travelling from the East, or South East, head for the B4070 Birdlip to Stroud road, and take the small turn to Cranham about 1.5 miles South of Birdlip, or half a mile after the Fostons Ash pub from the South. Take great care down through the narrow lanes of the village approaching from this direction, and the Scout Centre is at the far end of the village. Turn LEFT into the car park as signed, not into the Scout Centre proper on the right.

Parking is in the Scout Centre overflow car park, where there isn’t a great deal of room, so please park close to other vehicles, or share transport where practical.

THE MAP

The scale is 1:10000 with 5m contours.
Control descriptions are on the map, but also available loose at registration. The map is printed on waterproof paper.

TERRAIN

Typical mixed woodland, with a strong path network. Cranham tends to be very muddy in places, whatever the recent weather. Some paths are leaf covered and indistinct at this time of year.

EVENT

Standard 1 hour Score event. Penalties will accrue for late return at 1 point for each 6 seconds over 60 minutes.

Waterproof map with symbolic control descriptions on the front.
Loose descriptions for wrist holders will be available. Yellow course comprising 7 controls.

This is an SI event with a punching Start and Finish close to the organisers car.

TIMINGS AND FEES

Registration from 17.30. Starts from as soon as it is dark. Last permitted start will be NO LATER than 50mins after the first starter. Course will close at 20.30.
Entry: £5 Seniors (£6 for non-BOF members), £2 Juniors and full-time students.
SI Hire: £1 Seniors, free for Juniors. Lost dibbers – £35.

SAFETY

Whistles and backup lighting are compulsory at WNL events. Cagoules recommended if weather inclement. Correct footwear for the conditions should be worn. All competitors will complete a registration form and report to registration BEFORE starting. This is to ensure the organiser is aware of who is out on the course. Car keys may be left at registration and those travelling alone are recommended to do so.

Some controls can only be visited by crossing a minor road which runs through the area. Unaccompanied runners under 16 years of age may not visit any control which requires them to cross the road; they are restricted to the Yellow course and any other controls they can visit without doing so.

Runners may not run along the road.

Safety Bearing South

All competitors MUST download even if they do not complete the course.

The Scout Centre itself and its surrounding camping fields are out of bounds to all competitors and will be marked so on the map.
