NGOC luck prevails. Our day, the second at Kenfig, was the only dry day during the week, and with a dress rehearsal the day before by BOK, we had an entirely trouble free day. Apart from all the NGOC competitors who helped on the day, we had as many again from other clubs, and we owe them a huge debt of thanks for stepping up to help us out, and ensuring that the day went well. You may be surprised to hear that apart from ourselves, runners from no fewer than 12 clubs helped on the day – BOK, DVO, GRAMP, INT, KERNO, NOC, SARUM, SLOW, TVOC, UBOC, URINGA and WSX. Very many thanks to all of you, NGOC members and others, for helping to make Croeso 2016 a resounding success.
Special thanks also to the pre-event work gang – Alan Richards, Paul Taunton, Bob Teed, Roger Coe and Lucas Ashworth. Work started on the preceding Friday, with delivery of the toilets and marquee, and the cutting of the string course path and near start area. Then on the Saturday before Day 1 the crew assembled alongside the BOK team to practise the cross country drive to the far start, build some stiles, and further prepare the starts.
The result of all this work was that we were able to take a much more relaxed approach to getting started on Day 2, confident that the base work had been done, and the start teams, string course, parking teams etc could all get on with their primary jobs without having to worry about whether everything was ready. Time spent in preparation is seldom wasted!
