Our success as a club, and our future, are dependent on our developing in a number of ways. We need to find new orienteers, help existing orienteers to develop their skills, and continue to expand our pool of volunteers and event officials.

The committee believes that development is an integral part of everything we do, and whilst we have a Development Plan, which you can read here, we try to ensure that development is an integral part of every event and activity that we do.

For example:

  • We schedule a regular series of training events throughout the year, aimed mainly at newcomers and beginners, but also providing training and coaching opportunities for experienced orienteers;
  • We actively seek new event organisers and planners, and provide them with experienced mentors to help them get started with planning and running events;
  • We run courses for new event officials;
  • We actively encourage all club members to help at events. Helping is a great way to get to know more people in the club, and to build a better understanding of how orienteering works. Visit the Volunteer Development page here for more on helping.

We are always on the lookout for new ideas and things to do to develop both the club and its members, and to draw new people into the fun and challenge of orienteering. If you have any thoughts on what we could and should be doing, please get in touch. You can email Pat, as development officer, or Chairman Gary or have a chat at an event with anyone on the committee.
